The word 'core' in Core Process Psychotherapy refers to a core state that is our innate spiritual nature. It is an inherent state of health, which in Buddhist terms might be recognised as a manifestation of the luminosity of Bodhichitta, the Awakened Heart, and is something that a Christian might identify as Holy Spirit. The core state is a state of being which is open and boundless, and CPP work is an exploration of how we cut ourselves off from this natural state of wellness, so that we can rediscover a sense of it for ourselves. The word 'process' in Core Process Psychotherapy refers to the variety of psychological processes by which we tend to shape our personality into a unique form with which we identify, through which we see the world, and from which a sense of separate self or ‘ego’ arises. It is this shaping process that obscures and cuts us off from our core state of inherent wellbeing, and CPP is about bringing mindful attention to this shaping process as it is happening, with compassion, and loving kindness. I am currently training in Mindfulness Based Core Process Psychotherapy at Karuna Institute and as a trainee I am offering sixty-minute sessions at a reduced rate of £50.
